by John Gaudio, When it comes to long term high visibility on popular search engines like Google, Yahoo, MSN Search, etcetera, I know nothing that beats a Blogsite. But are there ever reasons to try Pay Per Click instead of, or in addition to a Blogsite? The answer is, Yes. A new Blogsite typicaly takes thirty to ninety days to be found and prominently included on major search engines. Pay Per Click, can be found immediately, but only for the specific terms you pay for. The "Long Tail" that works so well with Blogsites, doesn't exst in the world of Pay Per Click. With a Blogsite, many more searches, and better qualified searches, are likely to bring prospective customers your way. With Pay Per Click you pay a set amount for every click through. Perhaps a nickel, perhaps ten dollars, depending on the search terms you buy, and not everyone who clicks is going to buy. If you're paying a dollar per click, and average just ten clicks per day, you pay three hundred dollars every thrity days, about the same cost as a Basic Blogsite. But what if a lot of people come in to look? At twenty clicks per day you're paying about $600.00 per month. At thrty-five clicks per day, you're over a thousand dollars per month. So why would you use Pay Per Click? If you have a thousand tickets to an otherwise sold out sporting event this Sunday, then starting a new Blogsite will do you no good. Better go with Pay Per Click. If you want to do a quick test, and your budget for the test is five hundred dollars, you could use Pay Per Click to test the waters. If you get no response, then your product may not be viable, or your customers may be part of that long tail. It's not a perfect test, but it may be better than nothing. If the Pay Per Click shows you there's a market for your product, then create a Blogsite to expand the search terms and save money in the long run. As new customers start finding your Blogsite you can cut back or phase out the Pay Per Click, depending on your results. In short, if you need results today, a Pay Per Click program can have people clicking links to your page almost immediately. You'll likely pay more, but results can be almost immediate. With a new Blogsite, even though it takes thirty to ninety days to get the ball rolling, you'll likely spend less money and bring in more new clients than you would with Pay Per Click. You'll know your monthly cost from the start, and better yet, you'll have a shot at the 97% of clients that slip in from the long end of the tail. |
