| January 06, 2006 | | President and CTO Steve Giordano, Jr. tells me he put free photo kiosks at CES "to make Kodak mad." | by John Gaudio I've taken a number of photos at the show, and to my great pleasure and surprise, there before me was a photo kiosk offering free 4 by 6 and 6 by 9 inch prints. Inserting my SD card into the machine allowed me to view my shots and print a couple for friends to take home. About that time, a fellow walked up and asked how it worked. That fellow was Steve Giordano, President and CTO of Lucidiom. Thanking him for the prints, I asked why he was giving away pictures at CES. His initial quip was "to make Kodak mad." But on further discussion it appears that the real reason was to get their attention, and the attention of future potential customers. It also gave him the opportunity to gain general exposure and customer feedback. What a great way to get the attention of CES visitors all over the show without spending a ton of money on booth space and extra personnel. It's a real win win solution. Steve gets the exposure, and we get an easy way to print our pictures from the show floor. Of course the pictures won't likely be free in other venues. The machines appear capable of accepting both credit cards and cash. They also tie into the Internet, and that opens all sorts of possibilites. In addition to printing pictures, the non CES units include a CD burner, allowing travelers to transfer their pictures and make room for more. Check out the link below. Steve's looking for people who want his machines, and it's OK with him if that makes Kodak mad. ;-) Thanks, Steve. Have a great show. | | |
