HDTV Screens Use Organic Light Emitting Diode, (OLED) Technology to Create Large Thin Flexible HD Displays

An OLED Display was shown in the LG booth at CES 2006. This new technology still isn't practical for large displays, but it's promise is considerable.

We're familiar with LCD and Plasma displays, but there's another up and coming technology, OLED, which was originally developed by Kodak in the 1980s.  Layered between thin sheets of plastic, these organic light emitting diodes produce their own light when a current passes through them.  Unfortunately they're still very expensive to manufacture, and the blue elements tend to fail after only 3,000 to 5,000 hours.  Still it's a fascinating technology that will likely take its place in applications as diverse as portable newspapers and active wallpaper.  Please check out the article below for more detailed information.
