by John Gaudio, (I'm typing as Dave speaks, and will fill in blanks later.) Check out Ask Dave Taylor. Findability is King. Make yourself easy to find by putting out lots of items, like posts on blogs. People will find you like fish find a hook. You want to fish with thousans of hooks, not just one! 1) Fresh Content is most important. Blogs are not the only way to keep content fresh, but one of the best ways. 2) How can you sell knowledge rather than time? Dave's primary goal is to give good information. Ads by Google, Google Ad Sense, brings in significant money every day. Put a search box on your own web site and log every search. When you see lots of searches for things you don't have on your site, you know what you should add to your site. On AdSense ads avoid borders etc. Don't make it look like an ad. Make it look like a link, which it is. Search on AdSense at Dave's site. Dave uses AdSense, not Ad Words. Dave has friends that pull in 20-30 thousand dollars in a weekend. Dave's goal is to work zero for infinite income. ;-) Dave blogs about something and it's there forever. Look into The Long Tail, Look at the book "The Tipping Point." Search Engine can make you disappear if you scam the search engines. Dave has three web logs, AskDaveTaylor.com, Intuitive.com & APParenting.com. Don't be a perfectionist regarding design, fonts, etc. Focus on lots of good content. First people need to find you, but once they do, they have to find good content. RSS is a means of communicating information. Web pages, including blog sites can be found by search engines. This is huge. No one but your subscribers will ever find an email newsletter. RSS makes it possible for Dave to keep track of 150 different sites a day. RSS is a great way to retain readers. It gives them a chance Tracking tools, Urchin, now a Google product, Web Analyzer, etc. Dave's a great speaker who knows what he's doing. Thanks, Dave, for sharing your knowledge with us. |
