Scotty Allen at EntConnect 2006, on His New Startup, Notewise.

Rising to the top no longer is about physical size, who your parents are, or what you own. Today it's about your knowledge.

by John Gaudio,

(Written as he spoke, I'll try filling it in later.)

Scotty Allen asks, How do you store your knowledge so you can both get it back, and retrace your steps?

How can you store things like the people you met, the books you discussed, directions, etc.?  It needs to be a trusted application.  It's called Notewise.  http://www.Notewise.com.

It's a personal knowledge base, a knowledge management environment, a surrogate brain.

It lives on the Web and is based on Concept maps.  Working in a web space Scotty can create and edit notes.  The "document" is always saved as things are added and changed.

The views scale and you can zoom into specific things like Dave Taylor's talk.  His talk exists within EntConnect.  Dave Taylor exists in other contexts as well.  Scotty can get to Dave Taylor from many places.

If Scotty wants John Gaudio's phone number he can simply start typing John Gaudio.  As he types information comes up.  In moments he's got my number.

Scotty takes class notes in this application as well.  All text is search-able.

Scotty has found even these early versions of the application to be very reliable.  He hasn't lost any information yet.  Every time he's tried to find information he's been able either to search successfully for it, or to find it by remembering something associated with it and moving back to it from there.

It's a subscription based product that doesn't cost much to maintain.   Price point is estimated at $5.00 to $10.00 per month.

He's about a month away from open beta.  Perhaps three months from selling it.

Plans exist to let people download and store their knowledge in XML files, but that's not in place yet.  Useres created many more types of relationships than they had anticipated, and such relationships can be created on the fly.

Collaboration is in the future, but for now it's a personal tool.  Check out the web site to get involved in the Beta.

Thanks, Scotty, for a great presentation.
