EntConnect, (Entrepreneurial Connections)

Each spring, EntConnect brings high tech entrepreneurs to Denver, Colorado. There we learn, teach, ski, eat, drink, and build both personal and business relationships. EntConnect grew out of EntCon, which grew from Midnight Engineering Magazine.

Please join us for EntConnect 2007, March 29 - April 1, in Denver, Colorado. EntConnect grew from EntCon, (Entrepreneur's Conference), which was created by Bill Gates. Not the Bill Gates who runs Microsoft, but William E. Gates, the creator of Midnight Engineering Magazine. Look here for tips, thoughts, resources, and other musings of Entrepreneurial Engineers, and those who share their interests. Jeff Duntemann on EntConnect 2010 in His Contrapositive Diary

It's great to hear that Jeff Duntemann will teach us a bit about POD (Print On Demand) publishing. Now if we can just get him to ski with us. :)
...everyone I've spoken to who's ever gone says it's been a wild time and well worth it. Don't think Comdex. Think a geeky tech retreat with go-karts, trap shooting, snow skiing, and freewheeling interchange among a modest-sized crowd of very smart people who aren't famous for taking 'no' for an answer."

By John Gaudio,

I love it when EntConnect comes together.  Jeff Duntemann just posted an article on EntConnect, telling the world he'll be teaching us a bit about POD, (Print On Demand) publishing.  He heard about EntConnect through Jack Krupansky, and now he's one of us.  EntConnect has a life of its own, as friends and fellow entrepreneurs come together to teach, to learn, and to have a really great time in the process.  Just over a month away, March 25th - 28th, EntConnect is a labor of love with a whole lot of help from my friends.

Bill French, Dave and Andrea Shaver, Rob Packard, Lee Devlin, and others come together every spring to share what they've learned, make new friends, and have a blast.

Join us if you like, satisfaction guaranteed, or your money back!

Entrepreneur's Retreat/Conference, March 25-28, 2010

Is EntConnect a conference for entrepreneurs, or a retreat? It's really both.

by John Gaudio,

EntConnect is more than a conference.  It's a retreat for high tech entrepreneurs, and boasts roots going back to the first EntCon in 1992.  EntCon, short for Entrepreneur's Conference, was the brain child of Bill Gates, publisher of Midnight Engineering Magazine.  It was an excellent excuse for entrepreneurial engineers to come together for skiing, good company, and the opportunity to spend time with wonderful, independent, like minded, and sometimes geeky souls here in the Colorado Rockies.

We start Thursday, March 25th, with a day of world class Colorado spring skiing, typically Keystone, Breckenridge, or A Basin, whichever has the best snow, followed by drinks and tall tales in the hotel bar.

Friday we race go karts on a challenging track with very hot cars, followed by experiments using gun powder and lead to blow little orange disks from the sky.  Known by some as shooting trap.  Friday evening we gather for a traditional Italian Feast at Maggiano's Little Italy, just a block from our hotel.

These first two days are optional, but offer a jump start for getting to know one another, building new friendships, renewing old acquaintances, and learning how fellow entrepreneurs deal with some of the issues we all face.  Plenty of time is built in for relaxing, talking, swapping stories and ideas, and letting the backs of our brains work through the big picture problems we never take the time to deal with at work.

The "conference proper" starts Saturday morning and runs through the wee hours Saturday night, with breaks for lunch and dinner.  Did I mention it includes a poker tournament late Saturday evening?  More sessions follow on Sunday morning, and by 2:00 PM  Sunday the conference comes to an end, and the last of the die hards head out for a final lunch.

Yes there will be technical topics, and we'll look at marketing, sales, issues with customers, employees, family members and the like, and technically that's what makes it a conference.  But it's also a time to relax and learn from entrepreneurs like yourself, taking the time to shoot the bull, while learning from, teaching, and building relationships with new friends and potential business partners.  That's what makes it a retreat.

Specific topics will be discussed in a future post, but you can visit http://EntConnect.org to learn of past topics and speakers.  Sign up if you like, we offer a money back guarantee.  I think you'll like it. :-)

(FYI, our Bill Gates is a few years older than the one who started Microsoft, but he's still a most interesting character.)  :-)

Good Sound for Video

A quick You Tube video with tips on getting the best sound for your video. At EntConnect we used two wireless mics, and one wired mic, all connected through a mixer.
Gettin good sound for your videos.

by John Gaudio, Posted 2:05 PM

Sound is arguably the most important part of any video.  Disagree?  Which do you think makes it easier to follow most presentations, listening without watching, or watching without listening?  Unless the subject matter is very visual, like putting together a book shelf, I think you'll find more information comes in through your ears, than through your eyes.

The microphone on a camcorder is OK for some things, but you're often much better off to use an external microphone, or several external microphones and a mixer.  When recording a presentation I like to have a lavaliere microphone on the presenter, that's a mic that typically clips on the presenter's collar or tie, and a hand held microphone which can be held close to the mouth of persons asking questions.

Good audio holds the video together, creates continuity, and conveys most the information, most of the time.
