BlogWorld Expo Opens With a Bang!

Larry Benet opened BlogWorld today by showcasing the value of relationships, and taking us through exercises to help bloggers start building relationships here at the conference.

by John Gaudio,

Larry Benet , The ConnectorTM, opened BlogWorld Expo today by telling us how he had breakfast with Lary King, how he "stalked" John Elway, and how he managed to get Richard Branson's email address in twenty seconds.

The quick answer is "Be a giver."  Give of your time, your resources, and your rolodex.  Learn what's important to the person you want to meet, and focus on what you can do for them.  Focus on others, not yourself.  Learn about their personal life, and their passions.  Provide value by serving others first, in order to connect.  He called it, "Connectology."

"Take action in the moment."  You may only have seconds to make the connection, so be prepared.  Know what's important to the person with whom you're trying to connect.  "What would I say to [fill in the blank] in 15 seconds?"

Larry Benet pointed out four important areas in which we can help.  Family, Business, Health, and something I missed.  (Help me out here, Larry.  Please post a comment with number 4.)  He suggests sending at least one card to someone each day, just to stay in touch, and told of how wishing an associate "happy anniversary tomorrow" saved his associate's life.  He'd forgotten that tomorrow was his anniversary!

It's largely things our parents taught us years ago, but Larry's turned it into a science.  Thanks, Larry Benet, for geting BlogWorld Expo off to an outstanding start!
