| May 11, 2009 | | Check the History | Way back when, shortly after life on earth developed a wide array of forms (the Cambrian Explosion), the mean carbon dioxide concentration in the atmosphere was 4500 ppm. During the Ordivician Period following the Cambrian, the CO2 levels rose as high as 7000 ppm. The mean temperature was 16°C, 2° warmer than it is today. Those levels fell back down to around 4200-4400 ppm about 430 million years ago, and we had an ice age.
Consider! An ice age with the carbon dioxide levels 11 times higher than they are today.
So, the conclusion I would draw from this is that CO2 has very little influence on global temperatures unless it was a substantial constituent of our atmosphere.
Russ,
Thanks for your great comment. Well said. I apologize for missing it earlier. I just came accross it and posted it immediately.
Keep up the good fight!
