Finally a cell phone that fits comfortably in my shirt pocket, provides Internet access on the road, lets me send and receive email, and includes a full qwerty keyboard. Thanks, Motorola.

<p>by John Gaudio</p><p>I have a love/hate relationship with cell phones in general.&nbsp; I love that they let&nbsp;me stay in touch on the road.&nbsp; I hate the fact that they're far less reliable than good old land line phones.&nbsp; Still,&nbsp;the good outweighs the bad, most days. ;-)</p><p>The first criteria for a smart cell phone, at least for me, is that it has to be a good usable cell phone.&nbsp; While even with Verizon I still&nbsp;have some dropped calls, they seem to be fewer than what I&nbsp;had before.&nbsp; Voice quality is good&nbsp;in both the normal mode and the Bluetooth earphone mode.&nbsp; Voice quality is&nbsp;only fair when I use the&nbsp;speaker phone, which sounds a bit tinny,&nbsp;making&nbsp;it hard for me to&nbsp;understand&nbsp;some of what's said.</p><p /><p /><p>In the car I almost always use my Bluetooth ear phone.&nbsp; It took a while, but I'm now comfortable enough to keep it in for hours.&nbsp; I even use it in my office while helping clients over the phone with their computer problems.&nbsp; keeping both hands free is&nbsp; a great help.</p><p>The camera is nothing to write home about, but in a pinch it's served me well.&nbsp; Video too is good enough to be useful, but nothing to get excited over.</p><p>Connecting to the Internet from virtually anyplace&nbsp;is another thing altogether.&nbsp; On several occasions I've used Google to search for a place I needed to be, or looked up a phone number on line using my Q Phone.&nbsp; While the screen is small in comparison to my PC, it is usable.</p><p>Right now I get way too much email to send it all to my Q Phone.&nbsp; It would drive me mad!&nbsp; So I'll be setting up a new email address for&nbsp;my most urgent needs, and setting my Q Phone up to monitor just that one email address.</p><p>I also plan to connect&nbsp;it to my portable PC via the built in USB port, and to use Q as a fairly high speed modem,&nbsp; hopefully 300 to 900 kbps, or about six to 18 times the speed of a dial up connection.</p><p>Finally, hands free dialing is very handy, but it frustrates me when Q recognizes every digit of a 9 digit telephone number, but fails to recognize the word &quot;yes&quot; when it asks me to confirm the number.&nbsp; </p><p>So, the relationship with my phone remains, as it's always been, one of both love and hate.&nbsp; I will admit though, that there's more love than hate, and&nbsp;it's just possible that some of the problems have more to do with the operator than the phone.&nbsp; ;-)</p> 9 application/xml false john gaudio motorola q phone verizon According to this very short review, the Q stands for QWERTY, referring to the keyboard that's laid out like a standard typewriter keyboard. http://www.engadget.com/2005/07/26/hands-on-with-the-motorola-q/ Short video review on the Q phone found at mobilewhack.com http://www.mobilewhack.com/reviews/motorola_q_smart_phone.html Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 5.1; .NET CLR 1.0.3705; .NET CLR 1.1.4322; Media Center PC 4.0) 127.0.0.1 127.0.0.1 johngaudio 67.172.131.247 false true false false true 176085 false false true false false false true 79668 blog blogsite/ABetterBlogsite/web
