Brother makes more than just printers. A hundred years ago, Brother's first product was a sewing machine. Now, Brother also makes electronic sewing machines that print by creating embroidered images on cloth.

by John Gaudio, 5:55 PM MST, Picked up by Google, approx. 9:00 PM MST

June Mellinger, Director of Education for Brother's Home Appliance Division, tells me she has something for everyone. Last week at CES she spent a little over ten minutes filling me in on some of her products. Brother has sewing machines and embroidery machines ranging in price from a hundred dollars, to just under ten grand. So what makes the difference?

The least expensive machine is a simple sewing machine that does no embroidery. The most expensive machine only does embroidery, is very fast, simultaneously handles up to six colors of thread, and is intended for people who want to set up their own custom embroidery business. Some of the in-between machines are capable of doing both. Ultimately though, cost is determined by things like the size of the "printing" area, how fast they sew, how tough they are, how smart they are, and other considerations. Brother also has an ink jet printer that's ideal for printing custom tee shirts, but we'll save the details on that, for another post, which you can find by following the link below.

Double click June's smiling face, and she'll fill us in on things like automatic needle threading, the creation of your own stitches, making your own custom cloth, turning digital photographs into masterfully embroidered keepsakes, and much much more.

To be further educated, please call June Mellinger, at 908-252-3044.
